Outdoor Recreation

For the outdoor enthusiast, the Heart of Appalachia region has is all!  This area contains more than 90,000 acres of National Forest, three state parks, an interstate park, a nature preserve, a wilderness area, and the nation’s largest National Historical Park!.  There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails and numerous bike routes including the Heart of Appalachia Bike Route. The rafting and kayaking enthusiast will enjoy the Russell Fork River, which has carved the largest canyon east of the Mississippi River and provides some of the most challenging waters and spectacular scenery in the country.  Bird watchers will thrill to see the many different species that call our region home, including the more than 30 species of warblers native to the area.  We have a trail for all “walks of life”….
