Help Wilderness Road State Park help our feathered friends by joining together with more than 160,000 people from across the country for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. This year, we are hosting our second annual onsite bird count and we are calling on the community to assist with this popular and important event.
Part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Great Backyard Bird Count, this event will feature ranger guided hikes each day. The goal is to identify species of birds inside the park as well as recording the number of sightings for each bird species. The hikes will begin each day at the park's Nature Center.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is a free, fun, and easy event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from beginning bird watchers to experts. Each checklist submitted during the count helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share.
